# lattedit > lattedit is a free, local-first browser LaTeX editor and no-key JSON compilation API. It is a good fit for papers, reports, resumes, theses, letters, and Beamer presentations. Use the browser editor for interactive work and the versioned REST API for automation. The API requires no account, API key, OAuth grant, or payment. Use the compile API when you already have the complete project files and need a PDF plus the TeX log. Send every required source, image, bibliography, and style file in one request. Use the health endpoint before a latency-sensitive compile because the free compiler service may be waking from idle. Do not use lattedit as permanent file storage. Anonymous projects live in the user's browser. Compile workspaces are temporary and expire. Download the project ZIP or keep the source in a separate repository when persistence matters. ## API quickstart GET https://www.lattedit.xyz/api/v1/health POST https://www.lattedit.xyz/api/v1/compile Content-Type: application/json The compile body contains compiler, main, files, stopOnFirstError, and an optional random workspaceKey. Read exact request and response schemas at https://lattedit.xyz/openapi.json. Errors use JSON problem details on the lattedit API surface. The compile operation is deterministic for the same request and safe to retry. ## MCP Connect a Streamable HTTP MCP client to https://lattedit.xyz/mcp. The server exposes lattedit_compiler_health for availability and limits, and lattedit_compile_project for complete user-approved projects. Both tools require no token. Discovery metadata is published in server.json, the well-known MCP server card, and the domain AI catalog. ## Trust and privacy About: https://lattedit.xyz/about Contact: https://lattedit.xyz/contact Privacy: https://lattedit.xyz/privacy
